The Western Regional Dental Experience gave us something to sink our teeth into

April 27, 2018

Iconic Design Studio and AWE Corporate Interiors collaborated at the Western Regional Dental Experience recently at the Renaissance Glendale Resort & Spa.

The three-day event provided continuing education for dentists and their staffs. It also provided plenty of opportunities for vendors to catch up on the latest technology offerings in dental equipment, healthcare delivery protocol, and digital systems for the most up-to-date patient dental experience available.

We were introduced to some really innovative products geared for patient comfort and more detailed diagnostic tools. From our booth at the event, we shared our innovative design solutions geared to help our clients be more competitive and profitable in a very challenging market.

We spoke with several dentists breaking away and starting their own practice. It’s a scary thought – and a huge commitment, which makes it even more important to hire the right team.

Here’s the strategy we shared: We suggested early participation with the complete team, i.e. architect, designer, and general contractor to provide a holistic view of budgets, theming, schedules, and marketing to avoid drama and panic during the design and construction process.

The marketing aspect is every bit as important as the design process. Patients today are looking for the experience when they go see their physician and certainly their dentist. Laying the groundwork for good design and pre-marketing efforts is tantamount to the success of the practice.

Some tips we provide our potential clients is to make sure the products specified meet ADA compliance and the features and benefits of all products will provide a decent return on their hard-earned investment.

Ergonomic factors are also important and key to retaining staff. A dentist needs to do what he or she is trained to do – take care of patients. Their concerns should not be replacing furniture that did not perform or flooring that looks unsightly. There is always a laundry list of other failures that can occur if the correct specifications are not provided.

The event boasted approximately 1,000 dentists; I think we spoke with about 900 of them. It was a great show, and wonderful to partner with Andrea Moseley and AWE corporate Interiors.
